(5) Discuss the roots of the crisis in historical Palestine with references to The General’s Son and your class notes.

(7) Deepa Kumar discusses five Orientalist myths in chapter 3 of her book. Provide a short explanation of each and proceed to identify the one myth whose logic YOU had (have) come to accept more than any other prior to taking this course. Respond to Kumar’s counter arguments regarding this myth. How persuasive have you found her arguments? Has she changed your view? Why or why not?

If you happen to have not accepted the logic of any of these myths prior to taking this course, write instead an essay explaining what experiences and ideas you think may account for you not having accepted the logic of these myths that are so widespread in political conversations about Islam and the Muslim majority world.
