i agree, but proactive is not a classic hips. Avira had said we would be testing an hips but this is not an hips. I don't really know what it is even after reading the explanation before i installed it. It does nothing (that i can see) and there is no configurability. I uninstalled it because it conflicts with process guard which is a classic hips.

I am very disappointed because i thought avira was developing a classic hips with all the attributes you have suggested. It is badly needed for vista and windows 7 because process guard will not work on them and i don't want to buy another computer that has vista or windows 7 until i can find a classic hips for them. Maybe avira is still planning on an hips as i really don't know what this proactive is for. It doesn't do anything except send files to avira. That is a privacy violation which i accepted for this beta but would never allow on a regular basis...even with avira. I don't trust anyone with my files including avira and that is not meant as an insult. I simply do not like any sort of protection where i am required to be tracked and send stuff in as that violates my privacy. I was expecting a classic hips that i configure and that does not in any way call home.

gee, i just opened my email and found a response from avira for the bug i had reported regarding the two windows services that cannot start if processguard and proactive are both running. This reply stated that i cannot use two hips!

What the???? Proactive is not an hips! I don't know what it is but it does not meet the definition of a classic hips. Plus, the description we were given here in this forum about proactive in no way suggests that it is an hips. Anything other than a classic hips is not an hips and should not be referred to as such because it leads to tremendous confusion. I've seen all sorts of programs claim they are hips but they are not. There are just a handful out there. System safety monitor is one and eqsecure is another and the programs within zonealarm and kaspersky are classic hips but not full hips.

Kaspersky's hips meets the definition of a classic hips and i could run it with process guard. That was several years ago so i don't know if i could run both together today but i could back then. I was a beta tester for kaspersky when they first came out with a classic hips for kis and it was good but not nearly as good as process guard.

An hips is a program where the user has total control over their computer and it has attributes as mentioned by matr!x. The point of an hips is to give the user full control of what executes on their computer. This proactive has no interactive ability. Process guard asks me about everything unless i tell it to remember the action i just told it to do and generally i don't have it remember. Same with zone alarm pro. I want to be asked about most things and asked each time. For instance, ie cannot start until i give express permission each time. On vista, za controls avira just as on xp process guard controls avira. That is an hips and proactive is not an hips.

the suggestions matr!x provided would lead into a "standard" hips solution. The disadvantages of such a hips are false positives (fp), fp, fp and fp. That is why we do not want our hips to act this way and why we did not name it hips. The avira solution shall almost not produce fps at all. At the moment there are no rules that show you a popup window telling you that something has been blocked, but we will add such rules in near future as soon as we can rely on our sensors and know which additional sensors are required to build an advanced hips solution.
Since our solution monitors the windows api like any "oldstyle" hips it is easy to understand, that we might get in confilct with tf, pg or any other hips or hips-like solution. At the end of our road you anyway hopefully do not want to run any other hips solution asking you in 95% about regular installations only because a driver is needed by the new application of a new run-key has been created. In the first phase of the beta we need to get incompatibility issues (not with other hips or firewalls), performance problems and stability data. The next phase will take care of improved rules that are really shown to the (beta-)user.

من المستحيل انه ما يكون هناك انذارات خاطئة .... لكن هم يحاولون في هذي الفترة جمع اكبر عدد ممكن من التطبيقات مدري شقول (( السليمة او الموثوقة او النظيفة )) حتى يتلافون الانذارات الخاطئة ... ولا تهون عمليات النظام ... لهذا السبب هم تاخرو شوي :king:
